Jiří Thýn (1977) je představován jako „mladý autor, jehož práce se pohybují na hranici fotografie, videa, instalace a intervence do veřejného prostoru“. Zatímco první tři zmíněné pojmy (fotografie, video a instalace) jsou asi každému srozumitelné, pojem intervence do veřejného prostoru stojí za krátké zastavení. Pro Thýna je to totiž způsob, jak narušit tok svého sdělení a vtáhnout diváka do svého světa, v němž se bez ladu a skladu prolíná absurdita a smysluplnost, cílevědomost a nahodilost a vážnost s ironickým šklebem.

Jiří Thýn, absolvent Institutu tvůrčí fotografie v Opavě a student VŠUP v Praze, patří mezi autory, jimž běžná fotografie k sebevyjádření nestačí. Považují ji za překonanou formu, na níž už není co měnit a zlepšovat. Proto ji rádi znevažují a ještě raději utíkají k jiným způsobům vyjádření, například k videu. Thýn svět vnímá jako rozporuplnou směsici nejrůznějších, často protichůdných až nesmyslných vlivů, tlaků, dobových tanců a klišé.

Jiří Thýn se svými fotografiemi nejspíš ptá: Co je v našem životě a v našem počínání vlastně podstatné? Co má ještě smysl ve světě, kterému se již ani nedá pořádně porozumět? Thýn má naštěstí dar ironického nadhledu, který mu brání v přílišném sebepitvání. Proto dokáže diváka pobavit i vyzvat k zamyšlení. A samozřejmě dokáže také popudit zastánce tradičního fotografování obrázků, jednoznačně ukotvených v realitě našich dnů.
